Being a math tutor, science tutor, study skills tutor, etc. has its ups and downs. It's so exciting to see the light click on when a student suddenly understands a difficult problem or concept. It can also be frustrating when the road to understanding is longer than we would like - using numerous explanations, theoretical and real world related examples to try to illustrate what has to be learned. Online resources (like the Khan Academy) can be a great help, providing additional ways of looking at a problem, and hopefully shining a light on it! The challenge is to find the right way to look at a concept for your particular student.
